First-hand accounts of footraces from a middle-aged runner in the middle of the pack
Introduction
In an effort to lose weight and improve my fitness, I began running in early 2013, shortly after my 50th birthday. I began modestly, with a couch-to-5K app that I heard about in a Weight Watchers meeting. I worked at it gradually over the next several months, taking about twice as long as the eight-week program, but not going forward to the next step until successfully completing each stage. In addition to losing 50 pounds over the past year, my cardiovascular fitness has also dramatically improved. I feel that I now have more control over my health going forward, for the second half of my life. Here is my story. Enjoy!
